Recently, I have started writing down some of the little Kingman, Kansas sayings that my dad and others have taught me along the way. Some of them are very corny, but I run my business by them and they get me by pretty well.
- Never let your phone go to voice mail. The next guys she calls may get the work.
- When you’re self-employed you gotta work like your life depends on it—because it does.
- You can never make up time later in the day that you lost sleeping in.
- Don’t tell customers how good you are—show them how good your employees are.
- Hire people who care. Everything else can be taught.
- Never be afraid to say, "I don’t know." But always follow that with the promise to find out. Then do.
- It’s easier to keep a customer than to find a new one.
- Never leave a mess, it may be all they remember.
- Always call if you’re going to be late. Even if it’s only by 1 minute.
- If you’re not smart enough to express your feelings without cursing, then maybe you should stay quiet.
- Underpromise and overdeliver.
